Today's middle schoolers often lack real world role models to challenge their character development. I remember reading my way through shelves of biographies in my school library's biography section. However, my own 10 year-old granddaughter shows no such desire, preferring rather to get lost in fantasies where children, cats, and magic determine the world's fate. Thus, I chose to read this book in hopes of enticing her to dream a little more realistically about her own future.My conclusion? This author chose an interesting writing style in which to communicate the biography of a woman with a great deal of character and determination. I am looking forward to challenging my granddaughter's character growth and understanding of the world around her with this book during her middle school years.

I loved this book. I bought it for my pre-teen girls and they loved it too. It was wonderful to be able to talk to my girls about the fact that this book was based on a true story. The girls couldn't get over how different of a life the girl in the story had as compared with our own experiences. It really opened up that sense of wonder for them and I loved seeing that in them. The story really captivated me as well as the kids.

My son was assigned this book for middle school and my wife and I read it as well. All three of us enjoyed it a lot. I felt that the ending was rushed, but I am very glad to have read it. It is the type of book that sparks conversation and thought. Very enjoyable!

I enjoyed the juxtaposition of scenes from Beryl Markham's childhood and her flight westward across the Atlantic. Some people don't like that, but I did not feel that it detracted at all. It was an interesting biography.

Wonderful retelling of many facts in Berle Cutterbucks life. Michaela uses her story writing ability to make this story interesting and fun.

Promise the Night I found it to be A very good book. It kept me waiting to see what was coming in the next chapter.

This book is a tear jerker and as one of the people who commented on the book said it should be movie. I saw about two thirds of the EWTN video of this book during the right to life weekend. I decided to read this book. It reminded me of how I still fail and falter. I came out of the experience of seeing the video and reading the book that if God could forgive this lady, AND I DO MEAN LADY, He has and will forgive me of all the sins I have confessed and I can forgive myself. i would like to meet Ms. Sandoval one day to personally thank her for this. She tells the stark truth about abortion, chastity, Planed Parenthood and their eugenic lies. She will go through a lot to share this message, but it must be shared. The book is stark in detail of the horrors of the abortion procedure. THANK YOU MS. SANDOVAL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

I picked up this book because I had heard the author give her witness a couple of years ago at a parish and was very moved. I imagined that it would be a good book to recommend to any number of young men and women who were struggling with similar issues. However, after I read it (in 3 days!), I realized that Patricia's message was for me as much as anyone I might recommend it to. Not only is it a story of her transformation, but it is a reminder of the Father's patient and unconditional love. I highly recommend.

This is an excellent book on Mushrooms, but not the only book on mushrooms that you should own. It is an excellent guide for a beginner like me and has information that even experienced mushroom hunters would find valuable. The Complete Mushroom Hunter Revised has beautiful full color photos, a wealth of information on various aspects of mushrooms, and useful details on hunting, collecting, and preparing mushrooms, along with mushroom lore from around the world, and incredible helpful tips. That being said, one must couple this with a field identification guide. My choice was the National Audubon Society "Field Guide to Mushrooms". The Complete Mushroom Hunter is not a field guide, nor is it the size and shape that would be friendly to carry along on a walk through the woods or park unless you chose a large-ish messenger bag or backpack. Furthermore, while this book can help you identify some species of mushrooms, it lacks the comprehensiveness of the Audubon Field Guide or other such tome. The Complete Mushroom Hunter will help you forage and identify common edible mushrooms and medicinal mushrooms along with their poisonous look-alikes. It will not, however, help you identify the many hundreds of other North American mushrooms you may encounter while looking for the common edible and medicinal varieties. I am very pleased with my purchase and would absolutely recommend this book to others. Happy Hunting!

This is a very thorough guide! It isn't a field guide - it is too big to carry in the field. But, it has a wealth of information from ID, season, range, harvest, preparation, and preparation of the best edible mushrooms to fun and entertaining anecdotes from Mr. Lincoff's vast mushrooming experience. There is even a recipe section at the back of the book. It even is globally applicable (covers mushrooms that grow around the world). In my opinion, this is the best all-around mushroom book out there.

I presume that if all you are doing is hunting mushrooms for the sake of finding mushrooms, this book merits five stars. If you are thinking this book will prevent you from dying from eating ones that you find and then eat, well, maybe not so much. As far as being the exhaustive tome of everything fungi with thousands of pictures of thousands of mushrooms, clearly this is not it.

Great guide with pictures and detailed info. I wish it was a more compact to take into the field but other than I’m glad I added it to my collection!

What a beautifully written book with great pictures of all the different types of mushrooms out there, thanks again for the great service for the info I will need out in the field

Got this as a present for my friend that was new to Pokémon and it was great help! Easy to read and helpful tips.

This guide was written for players who are new to Pokemon and/or Pokemon GO!First off, the book is pretty detailed and 144 pages long. It is a 5"x 8" book, so it's more of a pocket guide. It's in full color, with lots of images. If I had to guess, I'd guess there are about 300 images and photos in the book. It definitely is not cheesy.The introduction has a short history of Pokemon and Niantic. The authors then walk you through all menus and screens - explaining what each does. There are tips on how to use Lucky Eggs, Lures, Razz Berries, Manage your Inventory, etc. There are strategies for evolving Pokemon and Attacking Gyms. There's a simple combat chart inside to help newer players understand "Type" strengths and weaknesses in gym battles.The last 50 pages of the book contain a simple Pokedex. The Pokedex has images of all 151 Pokemon, and lists their types, evolutions and a Pokemon battle ranking from 1-5. This is great for newer players and kids.I have picked up a lot of Pojo's Books and Magazines over the last 15-20 years. They are always dependable and good quality. If you want a condensed version of the “must-see” with beautiful visuals and photos of attractions, DK guidebooks are the go to books. If you prefer more history, details, prices, restaurants etc then Lonely Planet, Rough Guides or Frommers are the preferred guides. I used them all - but only keep my DK Guides after my travels cos of the beautiful photos that will never get outdated unlike information in other travel guides.

I think this is organized a bit confusingly. .... locations of restaurants and bars are not all on the same map. Great suggestions throughout; sometimes hard to tell if the list was a top 10 for BOTH QC and Montreal or just for one or the other, as the book contained all of the above. Great time to visit and great source which was up to date. Not keen on the organization of chapters, however.

Terrible! It just lumps Montreal and Quebec City into the same list with no way for the average person (who is not a resident) to figure out which is which and what is what! Very mixed up and poorly organized.

I think DK Travel books are a must for travel. Beautiful pictures and solid informational prose for the attractions of a first time tourist. Slim in volume and essential to finding out what you should not miss.I use them for each destination.

This book was very helpful on my long weekend trip to Montreal--it was especially helpful in narrowing down down which of the hundreds of fantastic restaurants to go to! Totally recommend this book.

Salgado uses his prodigious skills to capture haunting images of those who toil and suffer upon this earth - those who would otherwise have no voice. In this endeavor, he is a bridge between those of us who live more privileged and comfortable lives and those who for whom mere survival is an ongoing struggle. To those of us who cannot turn away and ignore his photographs, he raises our consciousness and, hopefully, our compassion for our fellow human beings. Salgado's breathtaking aesthetic would bring beauty to any subject, but the fact that he chooses to focus his lens on the plight of the "least among us" speaks to his great heart. I cannot recommend his work highly enough; it is a privilege to view it.

I bought this book primarily as a gag gift for a few friends, in a large part due to the picture on the front cover. However, after cracking it open and reading a few pages, I devoured the rest! This book is still relevant several years later, and the illustrations are incredibly helpful when explaining positioning and shot choices. My only regret is that I can't find any polo shirts like the ones they are wearing in the picture.
