This book is a must have for USMLE Step 1 Prep. If you plan on getting this book the last 2 weeks prior to steps, don't bother. However if you get this book early on and start using it on a regular biases for lecture and cross reference topics or need further clarifications or to look at cases. This is your book.I would use this with the First Aid and use the case files in the end of the chapters and the bold highlighted topics of each chapter as mental maps. Should you hit upon a topic you're not familiar with look it up!USMLE will test you're ability to understand topics and incorporate them into clinical situations.

The authors introduce new topics, then give explanations a page later making for a very frustrating read. The text is overly specific and at the same time; it feels rushed and vague.

For the MSN nurse, a required reading at most colleges, but it's approach was well planed. Each chapter's end ties directly into the next chapter to read. Very systematic with great case studies.

Great resource, book arrived in good condition and was useful in my class. I had enough time to complete the course before I had to return the text book.

Not required in my FNP program. Got this as an additional resource. I've found it useful. One of my favorite go-to books for school.

Concise and a very good primer in pathophysiology. Though for more detailed description you should dig a bit deeper in more specialized textbooks.

I like this book better than Heuther, both if which are required. It goes into more detail on the cellular level.

Lovely designs, lovely stitching, good projects from cushions, notebook cover, pegbag, scissor holder to table runner, nothing too imaginative but all done to a good standard with pleasant motifs. One thing to remember is that wool comes in many colours and you can dye your own because the first thing that strikes me about this book is that it is brown. Rebekah has chosen a limited, muted palette. On the back cover two cushions are shown, one dull green with a brown squirrel, the other orange with a brown bird. Just think what a happier guy that squirrel would have been if he were rusty orange. All the projects can be seen at the beginning of the book, and there's that overall brown-ness. As we are going through the seasons, you might imagine a palette of colour to match the seasons but that only seems to be evoked by a touch of orange in autumn. I like the pegbag, my mother used to have one, and if you adjust the pattern slightly, it could be any sort of bag you want. Some of the photos are a tad on the dark side. Each of the 12 projects is shown with details, introduced with a paragraph or two, and contain instructions to make the projects. There is a short guide to preparing wool and embroidery stitches at the back of the book. Included are 2 pages of pattern templates, these are double sided. I love the birds. Yes, it's a project book but one with attractive and useful ‘makes' that are described clearly in step photos and diagrams.The book is divided into seasons but, as the colour scheme is much the same throughout, it is just the motifs that change. The photography is good and full-sized patterns are included. Preparation, cutting-out and a very good guide to simple stitches would really encourage a newcomer to make something really lovely. I really like both the designs and the embroidery included in this book. However, I don't care for many of the projects because they are not useful for me. For example, a seed pocket wallhanging (to store your seed packets, of course), a clothes pin pouch to hang from your clothes line (dah), or a blanket carrier for picnics. Yes, I know, the designs themselves can be repurposed for something else, but get real, are these project REALLY useful?With my statement about the projects said and out of the way, I have to confess that I really do like some of the projects. One that I found intriguing was a trio of boxes. The actual boxes are those paper-mache boxes you can get in different craft stores. Rebekah has the whole project detailed out from adhering cotton fabric to the outsides and lid bands with contact cement and then creating the wool applique, stuffing them slightly and adding them to the tops. These boxes actually look amazing and are pretty large so there aren't any fiddly-bits to deal with. The sizes include a round 10" diameter box, an oval 8 3/4" wide x 6 3/4" long box, and an oval 10 1/2" wide x 8" long box. (If your box is a different size, then you just adjust your materials and applique accordingly.) These would make fantastic gifts.In the Fall section of the book, there are a couple very cute pumpkin pillows ... not your basic-type of pillows. One (11" x 11") is done up as a green pumpkin with a squirrel holding and acorn while the other pillow (15" x 9 1/2") is a wonky-shaped orange pumpkin with wool pennies and a bird.For tea drinkers, there is a tea cozy house (10" x 12") that includes Insul-Fleece interfacing inside to keep your tea pot warm. I'm not a tea drinker (don't even own a tea pot) but the house design is cute and is different on each side (one with snow and an evergreen tree, the other without snow or the tree but has a vine growing up on the house).There are a couple of table runners (one with hearts and one with an evergreen tree and leaping deer), a wallhanging (17 1/2" x 21"), and several other projects (12 in total).Rebekah uses freezer paper to transfer the designs to the wool which means that the provided patterns are NOT REVERSED for any of us who prefer to use fusible web with their wool projects. (Using fusible web, my preference is Soft Fuse, creates a bit flatter/controlled wool shape whereas the freezer paper method gives more loft to the wool shapes.)Unfortunately, the two tear-out pattern sheets at the back of the book are printed on both sides which makes transferring the patterns and embroidery elements a bit more challenging. Also, the patterns are of the completed projects, not each element separated so you will need to adjust your tracings to include extra wool for pieces that lay under other elements.All of the wool designs a really nice folk art designs. The embroidery used enhances the wool motifs nicely without taking center stage. Stitchers of all skill levels will enjoy this book. Wool design elements are all pretty large so there aren't very many little pieces (to remind you that on some days you feel like you are all thumbs!)Overall, would I have purchased this book if I had the opportunity to view it ahead of time? Most definitely!

Rebekah L. Smith has the most wonderful sense of color and style. I love the way she lets the reader know what inspired each of the patterns presented. She offers many tips and alternate suggestions for making the project your own. Good resources for materials needed in the projects. Can't wait until Rebekah publishes her third book! Her books are the best in wool applique!

What a wonderful new book Rebekah has out! I've done many of her projects before and am currently working on her Mystery Stitch A'Long, but can't wait to dive in the projects in this new book! Easy to follow instructions and a great sense of artistry!!!!!

I have the first book which is full of useful things to make just for the pleasure of working wth wool. This book falls short.Seed packet hanger? really! Clothes pin hanger? really! Who uses clothes pins anymore and you'd stitch this to leave out on the line? The strawberry stool is kind of clever, but the stool is $50 + $13 shipping. Can't find that size stool anywhere.

Must have for the Costume Jewelry collector.

The extraordinary workmanship involved in producing haute couture jewellery has never been fully recognized. Historians, as well as art and fashion cognoscenti, have ignored this aspect of faux bijoux. The jewel was merely the dot on the "i" of the catwalk creation, forgotten as soon as the model was out of sight. It was whisked away into the archives of the respective fashion houses or, if it was lucky, purchased together with the garment it adorned, reappearing as a discarded heirloom at some later stage. Many of these jewels have been unearthed over the years by collectors, including a famous couple in Belgium, Patrick and Godelieve Sigal, who were responsible for initiating this book and the exhibition. The archived jewels were never seen again - until now.............What made this exhibition all the more riveting, however, was its focus on the paruriers, the actual artisans who made the jewels for the famous houses. Their names were in the cabinets with "their" jewels and the book itself is dedicated almost solely to these artisans. It "...provides a glimpse behind the scenes....The history of paruriers throws a new light on relations between the different couture houses and their official suppliers: the jewellery workshops....contrary to a widespread belief, the couturier always "suggested" but never "created" the jewel."......this book is a detailed history of the rise of costume jewellery, or more specifically, haute-couture jewellery, in France. The author, Florence Müller, defines the latter as "the luxurious version of "commercial" jewellery, where calculations of cost and price limit inventiveness".It is a tidal wave of facts and figures, anecdotes and press quotes, a who's who and what's when of famous names and historical references, a giddy list of materials, suppliers, styles and fashions, an encyclopaedia of showplaces and legendary events. In short, it is a substantial volume. A REAL book on jewellery, informative and analytical, as opposed to the usual line-up of pretty photos with price guides that are obsolete as soon as they are written. But photos it has! 400 sumptuous images selected from the exhibition. Wonderful insight of "l'industrie du sourire", awesome craftsmanship and taste, great illustrations, expert writing from Florence Mûller. This really is a must have book.In our times when precious materials - ie gold and diamonds - are becoming so unaffordable and not so much eco-friendly, what a great inspiration for any jewelry designer to explore couture and costume jewelry. Forget the logos,branding and carpet-bombing marketing of today's "traditional" jewelry industry - this book is also about creativity, baroque panache, generosity.

I've been keeping an eye on 'high fashion' for 25+ years as my own one-of-a-kind bead & jewelry business evolved. I could never figure out why some of the very unusual and creative jewelry I saw in couture and pret-a-porte' runway shows was rarely covered in detail in the fashion books or magazines. Finally this book was created to begin answering my prayers! Bravo - I love it, get lost in it!While I love all kinds of jewelry, I'd gotten my fill of the books featuring more traditional gold/diamond-type jewelry! If you like the more unusual side of the universe, then you will treasure this book.... and I say all of this before I've even studied the text!I hope publishers will pay attention and give us more, more, more! This is the tip of the iceberg and I'm delighted.

I haven't finished reading this book but the images of jewelry are beautiful and inspiring.
