I read all the reviews before posting mine and I have to say I understand where they came from but would like to offer my view … "Pieces don't fit together too easily" …. True, but i worked together on this with my little boy and as a father son project it was perfect. I could see if I left him alone with it, he might have issues but it was fun."Missing voice box" …. Hahahahahaha, I also looked for this. It seems to be a misleading drawing or something that makes one think there should be a voice box somewhere but alas, it isn't there. Still fun without it though."not sturdy" …. Very true but I don't think this robot was made to be used like a regular toy. Again, I don't know. I just think that as a fun project to work on with my boy, it was worth it and the robot is now on his mantle.Finally, the only thing I would complain about is the price difference between the book in the US and in Canada. I live in Indonesia and so ask people to bring me stuff when the are coming here from abroad and our american friends brought this over for us for a few bucks and when I wanted this as a gift for my cousin and found out a canadian friend was coming over I went to order it online at amazon.ca …. well it was something like 70 bucks!!!! Ridiculous.

Given to a 3 yr old boy, he needed help at first but now at 4 easily puts it together. He loves it. The robot doesn't do anything but teaches a child how to put something cool together. I love allll Stephen T. Johnson/ Paula Wiseman books. I am also a grandma with enough money to buy nice things for the grandchildren, and this was a good one.

very boring. my son built in then I found it in the trash a few weeks later : ( waste of money

Construction is solid, thick cardboard. However, it's too difficult for younger children (5 and under) to get the tabs in in the right places. So, an adult or younger child has to do the assembly. Once assembled very light handling causes parts of the robot to disassemble. The heart keeps falling out. Also, some of the graphics make it look like there's more there than there is, e.g. a microphone and speaker.

Love this fun book . My kids still have the first copy we bought its 10 years old. Just got a new copy for my grandchild to enjoy. The kids always liked the simple story and the easy to put together robot.

Young children will need help assembling this cardboard robot-in-a-book; it was not without difficulty for this 63 year old grandmother. My grandson loves the results, so it's worth a bit of work. He falls apart easily, if not carefully handled, and the cardboard connections can become frayed. It's a good project for an adolescent, I would think.

Fun activity but limited uses before we started losing pieces and/or some tabs started to break off. Still fun.

I was expecting the robot to "talk." I don't recall believe that the description on the Amazon.com website made that claim, but descriptions/reviews I had read elsewhere indicated that the robot would talk.The little white bubble in some pictures of the book (from other sites) say something like "I can talk." If you look carefully, the bubble on the Amazon.com picture of the books says "You can build me."Amazon.com's description did NOT make false claims--I just wasn't observant enough to see that this wasn't the same version of the product as what I saw elsewhere.

I can't say enough about this book. First of all the price is awesome!!! this book is half the price of the other PANCE review books and I feel like you get the same material. I also like it because I feel like it explains differently then the other PANCE review books, I have the James Van Rhee book: physical assistant board review, and I think that it is great, but it is in outline form. I like this book because it gives a little bit better of an explanation about each of the topics. The only complaint I have about it is that I feel like the subject matter in some of the questions in the book haven't been reviewed in that section. I felt like I got several of the questions wrong, or I got a question right not because of what I reviewed in the book but because of outside information. But I really like how it explains why the correct answer choice is right and why each one of the other answers are wrong. If you look at it as a learning experience and not to get down on yourself for getting a question wrong you can really learn a lot. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is studying for the PANCE. I used it in addition to the other PANCE review books but I really think you could use this as your only source it has everything you need.

My 7th recertification exam. While still a busy Family Practice PA always hear of something new I know nothing about. The book was nicely laid out and a very nice review of items I hadn't thought of in years. I went through it and just answered questions. If I got any wrong I went to that section to brush up on the concept I missed. Didn't kill myself with the review.End result was a PASS in the upper 80 % of all who took the test.Would have done poorer without the study guide.Recommended.

I highly recommend this book for board review. I passed my boards!!! Very well written and simplified cardiology, I also recommend using Exam Masters with this book for retest questions. Read book from over to cover!!!!! Maggie A.

Reading it now and like how easy it is to navigate

The book is very helpful so far. I would have preferred fewer jokes though, so I would have less to read. I try to skip over those so I can get to what I really need. I find the material very well organized and the explanations well done. I strongly believe this book will definitely help me pass the PANRE next year.

It explains how to take the test and doesn't cover the material very well. I was hoping to have more material but that's OK. It got a few things blatantly wrong in the practice quizzes. You have to recheck to make sure they aren't correct, which isn't what I paid for. Otherwise it works.

Having Professor Whaley as my instructor might have been an advantage, but this book is different from any of my other course books in law school. Sure, there are your usual cases and case law, but Whaley presents the reader with real life problems that a debtor, creditor, or attorney in this area might end up facing. It defiantly makes you think about the law and apply it in a way that many other law school courses don't. Makes the material easier to understand and remember. Definitely, highly recommend this book.

As described. The book has a lot of notes from the previous owner - which can be helpful - but there is no damage. Please with my purchase.

While the previous books all had merits and flaws, this is the first in the series that fails as a novel for one simple reason: it is the first that does not remain true to its characters. In many small ways throughout the novel (and in huge ways at the end), the characters behave in ways that are simply unmotivated.The key to understanding any character in this series is to ask the simple question, "What is WRONG with you?" Each character starts with flaws so huge and glaring that they define their lives, and though they may learn and grow, it's always in the context of their (hilariously) woeful starting points. This is also the basis for much of the humor and, I suspect, much of Scott Meyers worldview.In this book, one character is under strain to the point where they lose sight of decency, ethics, and morality. That character becomes be motivated to make terrible choices that hurt others around them, and it makes sense in context of the story events, for that one person. What destroys this novel is the fact that almost every other character simultaneously loses their ability to tell right from wrong or react accordingly. This unmotivated change in the entire cast; their absence of a reasonably appropriate emotional response to events, is what makes the book work so poorly.This book needed a more involved editor and revisions, plain and simple. It just doesn't work as written. The sad part is that Meyers has built a great world and comedic model that deserves continuation, and even if he manages to recover, this book will stand as a jarring road bump to any future readers that discover the series.Chapter-by-chapter, there's still some fun parts to be had in this novel, and (until it falls apart at the end), it bravely if inconsistently wrestles with some difficult concepts. With better critique and revision, (and at a minimum, drastically different fallout in the last couple chapters), there would be a lot more hope for the series going forward.

*SPOILER FREE!!!!I really like this series. I am invested in the characters and by far my favorite two characters are Philip and Jimmy. I like Martin as well but IMO Jimmy and Philip are more interesting/complex characters than the others. With that in mind, this book was better than I was expecting in some ways (considering all the reviews I have read), and ultimately disappointing due to the single issue of understanding WHY the major conflict of the book was necessary. If the entertainment value had been slightly higher I could have ignored the injustice of the conflict resolution or the severe beating (figurative and literal) that a major character takes in this book. You can chalk it up to "well sometimes bad things happen to people for no reason and that is just the way the world works", but if I wanted to read a book about how the world REALLY WORKS, i would not be reading the "MAGIC 2.0" series about science fiction in middle aged England!!! I dislike the overt gender imbalance in the books (maybe i am just sick of getting blamed for the worlds problems as a guy!) as I do in most media where women are smart and sassy and forgiven for flaws and men are bumbling idiots who have to pay a huge price for the slightest lapse in judgement. As a theme, it would be tolerable, but the sheer over the top man bashing that happens is too much for my palette! I liked the humor of the book and thought that as a side note or section of a larger story with a better resolution it would have been fantastic! I like how the magic is growing with the characters and that their ideas about what they do is maturing with the series. I do not like how short this book was. Not enough to justify the $25 price tag. Again I really did like this book for the most part but the above issues keep it from being above average or excellent. 3 stars is about right and it is worth the read if you like this series and hope that it continues, it does not deserve all of the hate that it has been getting!

When a book changes tones dramatically in a series, I wonder whether the writer is trying to get out of a corner he painted himself into or is dealing with some crisis in real life. If I had to make a guess, Scott Meyer is having serious relationship issues, because while the main story is about the potential end of the world, the major drama(s) center around the irrational girlfriends putting their men in impossible positions. It’s distracting, and rather sad.If it’s not Meyer working out personal demons, then this is a frustrating read with more than half the book based on terrible, oblique communications that cause more problems than it solves. I like the absurdity of the series, but this was too much of a confusing mess.

I have read every book in this series. The first book was great and the second and third books were decent. The 4th book is bad and this one is even worse. There are so many Continuity errors from the previous books and this one. The plot to this book is so pointless and makes no sense. They never come to a Resolution and leaves the reader a mixture of confused and frustrated. Its filled with fillers from 80s pop culture that add nothing to move the story along but seems to just be there to fill pages. At this point it seems like the Arthur is just making more in this series as a money grab.

I really enjoyed this book. Read it in a couple of days. I don't understand the hate that the last two books have gotten and I am very glad the author doesn't seem to be letting it affect his writing. There is a lot of fun time travel in this entry and I feel it was handled very well. And the characters continue to act as they have throughout the series which is why I find it so odd that it's bothering people now. I have to assume that most of the people who enjoyed the previous books will enjoy this one as well. Although if you suddenly had problems with the 4th book, this one may or may not bring you back into the fold. I was also a little worried about 3/4 of the way through because it seemed like he might be wrapping things up and this would be the end of the series. But luckily the last page dispels that and makes me very excited for the next book.

I really enjoyed this book.It is historical fiction starting during the Second World War.Lovely story about young married couple from Amsterdam , they got separated and send to different war camps.The interesting account of relationships between German officer and Marijke is an eye opener , the difficulty to survive and consequences of our decisions are well presented,emotionally and psychologically very engaging book.

This book is one of very few that I will not be passing along to a friend. While I appreciate the fictionalized reality this book chronicles, I found all the graphic images of torture horrifying and unsettling to a degree that made reading this book a chore. I read it through to try to understand the rave reviews it received. Obviously what those reviewers saw escaped me. While I found the story line of Karl and Marjke sufficiently interesting to finish the book to find out what happened to them, the horror suffered by Luciano was far too graphic for me. I found the jumps to his story disorienting and unhelpful and the ending trite. One reviewer compared this book to "The Nightingale" (which I thoroughly enjoyed) - let me end by saying I fail to see any similarities outside of the two books being set in the same time period.

A fascinating story, I learned quite a lot of facts that I was unaware of prior to reading this book.Very moving portal of characters and how war allows people to do things that they would not do in normal times.

Ellen Keith has written an excellent researched first novel about brothels in the Nazi concentration camps. In this book the brothel the book is centered around is the Buchenwald prisoner brothel for prominent and non-Jewish prisoners. The characters are well developed and this book is a page turner.I loved The Dutch Wife. I have been interested in the KZ brothels for a long time and believe this book belongs in the same category as The House of Dolls by Ka-Tzetnik 135633 and Lovely Green Eyes by Arnost Lustig.Ellen, thanks for writing this book about one facet of women's experiences during the Holocaust. It is finally time people learn about those women. Your novel will be and is an incredible teaching tool. People will now learn of the ordeals and atrocities these women had to endure. Their story was long suppressed and not even discussed by the women chosen as camp brothel workers (Joy Division aka Feldhuren). Shame weighed on them after liberation.

Another great World War II story. This is about a couple, married, joined the Resistance movement, non Jewish, arrested and sent to one of the many concentration camps for the duration of war. A very well written book. I like the way Ellen Keith writes. 🤗🤗

The cover says “readers of the Nightingdale will be rewarded...” - no. The book did not at all deliver as The Nightingdale did, although I felt it tried to find strong inspiration in The Nightingdale’s structure and story of hardship, love, courage and hope. I found Luciano’s storyline too distracting, too violent and unnecessary. At the end we see a connection but it’s too late. It could have been a sequel, a book on itself. It did not belong inside “The Dutch Wife”. I kept on reading hoping to get more out of the book. The different perspectives of Karl and Marijke telling the same story/situation were annoying. Repetition slows down the momentum of the story. Not good. I was hoping so badly to see Marijke as a stronger, bolder, WW2 “Hero-Woman”...I have been spoiled by other books, I guess, filled with these powerful women in World War 2. My personal wish was for Marijke to have been a true “badass” disruptor, but she was “just there”... A bit disappointing. I expected more.

I received a copy of this book through an author giveaway in exchange for my honest review.SPOILER ALERT: The rating is a 3 instead of a 2 simply because the writing is good. Unfortunately many things about "The Dutch Wife" did not work for me.I do not care for the literary device of having the setting of the novel moving back and forth between time periods, a personal preference, so keep that in mind. If I had realized from the synopsis this particular device was used, I probably wouldn't have entered the give away. Strangely, however, I ended up more intrigued by the storyline in Argentina even though I was hoping for a book set in Europe during WWII. And the tenuous link between the two stories leaves me thinking that the author might have been better off tackling the two different subjects (atrocities, really) in separate novels.I'm also getting a little sick of novels which depict women forced into sexual servitude and falling in love with their captor. I guess I should be grateful the main female character is not a Jewish girl falling for an SS officer. (And, yes, that's been done, to my dismay.) At least Marijke didn't end up with the Nazi. Of course, this leads to a completely unrealistic ending where she miraculously ends up with her husband. And aside from this dubious ending there were really no uplifting moments in the entire book.Is Luciano's fate supposed to be poetic justice? Because it doesn't work for me, him paying the price for his father's sins. And why kill Karl/Wagner at the end? Better he live with the agony of not knowing what's become of his son. Maybe the part where he does nothing to help as Luciano is arrested is supposed to mirror the way he failed to help Marijke near the end. As if the reader doesn't realize most SS officers were horrible people and cowards.No books on the subject of the Holocaust are easy to read, but some are worth the mental anguish. Consider checking out "Anya" by Susan Fromberg Schaeffer or "Heavy Sands" by Anatoli Rybakov. Also a wonderful portrayal of a similar subject, a woman forced into a Nazi brothel in order to survive, is depicted in a series by Bodie and Brock Thoene. (I'm unable to remember which series at the moment, but will update this review if I figure it out.)In conclusion, although "The Dutch Wife" was a little disappointing for me, I would consider reading another book by Ellen Keith simply because she writes well.
