I bought this book seeking theory that would better my understanding of basic plane geometry, as a stepping stone to more advanced geometry. I had the usual high school level of understanding and view of plane geometry as boring, useless theory that left me with many loose ends. After reading two pages in to the book, I saw that changing. Two chapters ("2/13") later, basic plane geometry became like a game to me - easy to remember, reason with and use for practical purposes. I got the Green Lion hardcover edition - Which I think is definitely worth the price. That thing is rugged and will probably last decades on a shelf with the right conditions.

As others have stated, this is the best book ever written. Question: do you know of other books (in other subjects) which follow the same strategy as Euclid's book; that is, start from extremely simple statements and then slowly, methodically, logically build upon them?

in English is the Heath translation, so I am told. Maybe, but seemingly endless minutia comparing every conceivable argument and complaint made in over two thousand years of criticism, which necessitates tiny print spread over three volumes, does not make for a very user-friendly experience. The folks at Green Lion Press have removed all that extraneous and somewhat tedious material and have retained the essence of Heath and the Elements in a single, splendid, utilitarian volume. This is a book that is meant for serious daily use with heavy paper, sewn bindings and plenty of white space for notes. The layout is just right, with attention taken to make sure that all figures are exactly where needed so that there is no page flipping to find any figure that is referred to in the text. This publisher clearly has taken a great deal of pride in producing a volume that feels good to hold and use. Euclid is better because of the craftsmanship that went into this edition. If you own only one geometry book, this should be it.The 1908 Cambridge edition of Heath is available online from Google Books as a set of three free pdf files, so the full result of his impressive scholarship is readily available to anyone who enjoys delving deep into the details of that extensive variorum set.

This is the must-have edition of Euclid's Elements, in English. Green Lion Press (the publishers) have done a fantastic job laying out the text for ease of use, including re-printing diagrams any time a proposition spans multiple pages.

It's hard to imagine that this was originally written back in 300 BC. Now the significant subject matter is diced down to a 1 semester high school geometry class. I believe there are a few similar college geometry courses, but only for math majors. Spherical geometry was still to come. It was mind-boggling to go through some of the proofs. Every some many centuries, some people are way ahead of their time; Euclid was one of them. I got the book just to see what was written so long ago.

Euclid's Elements is one of the most beautiful books in Western thought. Each proposition falls out of the last in perfect logical progression. One might be worried, since it is a math book. "High school geometry sucked!" I hear you cry. Let us be clear: this is not a math textbook. It is math at its finest. All the basic theorems you learned in that miserable high school class are proven within the first four books. Then come ratios. And numbers. You even get to build an tetrahedron in a sphere. Hate math? Buy this book and realize what math truly is.As for this particular edition, it is a lovely example of a book. The binding is excellent and stands up quite well to the test of time. I've been using my copy extensively for a year and it still looks brand-new. In addition, the diagrams repeat if necessary on different pages. This is appreciated, especially in longer propositions. Definitions are numbered, which is helpful for classroom discussion, and there is a Greek (and English) glossary at the end which is extremely helpful if one needs to know a particular word for a mathematical term or for looking up propositions centered around a certain mathematical object. Overall, a great edition that makes Euclid's Elements even better.

Unicorns, friendship and the magic of believing. This story is simply adorable! This is a book I would have LOVED as a kid.Even though no one else believes that young girls exist, Uni the Unicorn believes they do. Despite what all the other unicorns tell her, she knows that somewhere out there a young girl will be her friend. The story ends with a young girl, who like Uni, is the only one who believes that unicorns exist. She knows that there is a unicorn out there waiting to be her friend.Amy has a way of storytelling that I just love. She has the art of storytelling, mixed with sharing an empowering message down perfectly. Uni the Unicorn is a wonderful picture book kids will love. This is a book that I would have worn out reading as a kid.With a message of friendship, believing, and adorable illustrations, this book is a must have! We absolutely loved this book. The illustrations compliment this story perfectly. We can't wait to read the sequel!

Two nights ago I stumbled upon this beautiful children's book while walking around Barnes and Noble with my husband. As I opened this perfectly whimsical book, and read the pages, I was filled with excitement and felt like all my childhood dreams were coming true. I loved it so much that I just HAD to buy it for My daughter for full retail price at the store rather than from Amazon, so she would have it for her birthday. As soon as I left the store, I bought a second copy from Amazon to give to my niece. This is all to say... If you have/know a little girl, buy this book for them. Too dreamy to pass up.

It's a cute book. I wouldn't say it's a heartfelt book. Its about Uni the unicorn and how he/she believes in little girls and every other unicorn doubts Uni. Then, there's a little girl that appears in the book that believes in unicorn while everyone doubts her. Uni and the little girl are both imagining each other existence BUT never meet. The book just ends there. I would say this is for a younger audience like 2-4 years. I bought it for my niece (2 years old) with a unicorn plush so she can expand her imagination and have that childhood fantasy.

The book has really great art work and the story is really cute, but it kind of ends weird. The unicorn and the little girl never actually meet. When I finished reading it to my 3 year old for the first time she said 'is that it?' I now know there is a second book where it seems like the do meet so we will probably buy that one. Good marketing on their part I guess.

this book is full of magic! My 3 year old loves it; she asked to read it every night. The idea of little girls being make believe is adorable and the book is wonderfully written. I am confused about how negative some of the reviews were, those upset by the ending (not me) should look and see that there is a sequel due out in August, which we will also be buying!

The story is lovely and my daughter absolutely loves this book BUT she just got it yesterday and it is falling apart! The pages are not connected to the spine very well and already four pages that are detaching next to the spine. Very disappointing. I am using tape to try to prevent further damage. Not well made.

I bought this book for my new granddaughter and I seriously want to keep it for myself!! It has the best storyline and the pictures are beautiful. I have 6 granddaughters and even the older ones, age 6 and 9, enjoyed it. Buy it!! You will love it!!

Randomly got this book out of the library one day (okay, not quite randomly, I already loved Yes Day by this author), and we so loved it. What a perfect book for little girls. Though, my wife and I may even love it more than our 5-year old daughter. Great story. Wonderful illustrations. A near-perfect children's book.

My two year old daughter absolutely loved this book. She's a big fan of Florabelle also illustrated by Brigette Barrager. The colors are beautiful, simple text, and I love Uni's faith in little girls. Great story

the spinoza translations by samuel shirley are considered the best, if not standard, english versions of his works, and while a hardback edition is available which comprises everything that survives of what spinoza wrote, this paperback selected edition is perhaps superior and is certainly the most convenient. spinoza's major work (the "ethics") is included entire, as is the most important surviving fragment (the "emendation of the intellect"), with a judicious selection of the letters exchanged between spinoza and the few friends asking for clarification of his philosophical ideas.a considerable added attraction is the translator's preface, which is an extremely helpful dictionary of spinoza's key concepts, and the introduction by editor seymour feldman, which is a synopsis of a seminar on spinoza's philosophy. almost by itself worth the price of the book is the single paragraph explicating the difference between "natura naturans" and "natura naturata", spinoza's terms for the dual attributes of "substance" (which spinoza radically reinterpreted as the lawful and physical "god in nature") and the lawfulness and interpretability of what we would today informally call "reality".my single complaint is that the book i received is printed on high quality newsprint paper, which makes the volume less durable to time and treatment and to the reader's highlighting or marginal notes. if that might be an issue, get the hardback complete works.

The author markets this same book with three different covers. All three of them have a mismatch between the custom firearms index and the corresponding page numbers. He skips page 76 in the index and has references for two different firearms on page 84.This is sloppy work and you may have problems getting your guns back if they are stolen and you hand this book over to the police because of the indexing problems.

Bought 2 of them, one for me and one for fiance. I like the fact you can put a picture with each firearm so does my fiance. I've filled up half the book but have plenty of room for more. Fiance only has 4 firearms now but will be adding more. She liked that it was straight forward easy to understand. We both highly recommend

Good logbook. Make sure you use a regular ballpoint pen, as a fine Sharpie and similar pens bleed thru the paper. Space for a photo is a plus which is useful for high-value guns.

A must for any firearms owner.
