The information is acceptable but it is more of a pamphlet than a book. There is nothing in this book that cannot be found in five minutes via the internet.

The quality of the book is exactly as described. There are highlights in the text done by the previous owner but the cover and pages are in very good condition.

It explained what naturopathy is and how it works. I really like that he described hydrotherapy and tells how to do it to help heal bruises, cuts, lacerations, etc... I used it on my husband and it worked wonderfully. This book is a definite buy!

This little book has a big heart and is well worth reading on your Kindle. I have some printed versions, but recently had the opportunity to visit Walden pond (a state reservation) near Concord, MA, and loaded the Kindle version on my Kindle Fire as I could then read it without having my book suffer travel wear and tear. So I took the train from Boston, somewhere close to Harvard University, towards Concord, and spent the day walking the pathways surrounding the pond. I could read the book and search for matching descriptions of the pond area as described by Henry Thoreau. That was a lot of fun. The train line still runs on its original track, and you can imagine Henry listening to the whistle and seeing the smoke of the train. The park and pond is beautiful, and combined with the book and Henry Thoreau's stories, transfers one back in time to another world, a world that was both different and similar to the world that we know. There is a life-size model of Henry Thoreau's cabin (he lived in this cabin for 2 years and 2 months, and started construction late March 1845) in the parking lot across the road, and construction has started on a new visitors centre. Load this book on your Kindle and visit the pond...

It was a wonderful experience to actually feel like I was there with Thoreau at Walden Pond. The way he studied and described simply living and the appreciation of nature fits right into my values. I loved having insight to a life that took place so many years ago through his eyes, and with his mind and heart. He expresses his beliefs about life and society so eloquently. At times he goes into great detail in his observations, but then masterfully makes a valid point that is truly inspiring. This is a book that really makes you think about the purpose of our existence in this world, our values, and how we should live.

I first read "Walden" in a freshmen seminar course in American Lit, and it was quite daunting reading at the time. Thoreau seemed an over-rated author: he darts from topic to topic with little to no transition, he quotes obscure passages, he sermonizes. And perhaps most frustrating of all, he wants his writing to be ambiguous (see for instance, Chapter 18), and for an assiduous college student eager to absorb and analyze, this can be quite an overwhelming experience. So, I got very little of Thoreau at the time.Ten year's later, I decide that I would pick "Walden" up again. I told myself that I would stop whenever the reading became too discursive or abstract... And I did not stop until I reached the end!As any student of early American lit. knows, Thoreau built a small house for himself in the woods of Walden Pond in Concord, MA, where he lived for two years (1845-1847), documenting his experiences living there in "Walden." He hoed beans for a living, lived a mile from his nearest neighbor and survived on the absolute minimum that he could. In his downtime, he would swim, fish, read and take in his surroundings, describing every sight and sound with the utmost care. Thoreau creates for his reader an unforgettable Nature-observing experience with such richness of detail that we feel we are right there with him. We hear the owl's cry, we witness the loon diving into the pond and the two ants going head-to-head in battle, we see the blue of Walden Pond. He is a student of Nature of the highest order and extracts from each of these experiences a parable about humanity: what we lack and how we can be free. For Thoreau, Walden Pond is a place of purity, an oasis, an Eastern paradise on earth, a Ganges.An ardent non-conformist, Thoreau also uses this book as a sounding board for his "radical" views and practices. He detests the railroad and its encroachment upon his land (and more generally, that of technology on human and animal life). He refuses to pay taxes to a government that supports slavery and the Mexican War (for which he is briefly imprisoned during one of his sallies to the village). He prefers Eastern spirituality and meditation to Western religiosity. He spurns the high life and abstains from drinking and eating meat. He believes that man is in a dormant intellectual state, from which he can one day rise and embrace the dawn. And the list continues...Thoreau's prose is also rather unique. What one must remember is that he is faithful student of Emerson and like Emerson, his paragraphs often contain non sequiturs, digressions and sometimes outright contradictions. It was perhaps this lack of logical linearity that initially kept from enjoying his work as a college student. We must be indulgent with Thoreau: his wit, his aphorisms, his acumen are well worth the sometimes uncomfortable task of deciphering his prose. I am very glad that at nearly the same age as Thoreau, I took a journey to Walden Pond with him.

Review of ANNOTATED EDITION, not of Thoreau's work. Potentially great idea. Many of the annotations were superficial or unnecessary, although others helpful. Biggest problem with this is the printer's layout, which has two careless oversights: size and position on page. Two pages of text have been squeezed onto a single page (to allow the side-by-side commentary), resulting in tiny print. Tough on anyone over 40. Then, the printer left wide margins on the *outside* of the page, and squeezed Thoreau's text into the binding. Really foolish use of the available space.The result is something that could have been fascinating being just plain awkward and unsatisfying to handle and read.

Some of the most striking and eloquent descriptions of nature's beauty ever recorded with quite a bit of scientific observation thrown in as an added bonus. Anyone who loves the outdoors will love this book.

I love John Muir and his writings and found this book to be a great read. John Muir was a great explorer and a wonderful documentarian of the outdoors and the places that he explored. This book is a nice compilation of essays from several different trips and times in his life - Alaska all the way to Yosemite.

What can I say? It's a collection of works from the late, great John Muir. The man is legendary. His writing may come across as a little dry to modern readers, but then most works written in that time period tend to be. It is mainly his observations of the natural world around him. It is very good and for those interested in Muir this is a nice collection of his essays and the book cover is quite lovely in person.My main complaint is that I do wish he wrote more about the details of his day to day life. What he ate, what shelter, if any, he lived in? He doesn't talk much about that kind of stuff. Mainly just describing what he sees, which can get a little boring after a while to be honest.

A wonderful treatise about the great outdoors...John Muir describes his adventures in a way that helps the readerVisulize the story at hand and takes you along just for fun!

Introductory Summary:The editor of this book is Larry C. Spears who at the time of this writing is the CEO of the Greenleaf Center for Servant-Leadership since 1990. The foundation for this book is grounded in the person of Robert K. Greenleaf who is the father of Servant Leadership Theory. Back in 1970, he wrote a small essay called “The Servant As Leader”, which introduced the term “servant-leadership.” That and other writings have influenced an entire generation of management experts and institutional leaders. Bob Greenleaf (1904-1990) spent his first career in management research, development and education at AT&T. After retirement, he began a second career teaching and consulting at institutions ranging from Harvard Business School to the Ford Foundation to scores of churches and not-for-profit institutions. During the tumultuous 1960s, Greenleaf tried to understand why so many young people were in rebellion against America’s institutions, especially universities. He concluded that the fault lay with the institutions: they weren’t doing a good job of serving; therefore, they were doing a poor job of leading.In 1970, Greenleaf wrote “The Servant as Leader”, a powerful little essay that continues to gain influence today. In it, Greenleaf described some of the characteristics and activities of servant-leaders, providing examples which show that individual efforts, inspired by vision and a servant ethic, can make a substantial difference in the quality of society. Greenleaf said true leaders are chosen by their followers. The second question one must reflect upon relates to “how one views their own sense of personal identity?” If transformation is to occur in the lives that one leads it must be happening in the life of the leader. All ten of the foundational characteristics of servant-leadership theory are grounded on the bedrock of this core truth. Ridged mind-sets in organizations find cannot be hurdled by a leader who is not aware of their own capacity for a ridged mind-set. Thus, this leader will not have the courage to present a vision that is persuades people consider a different path to an issue. The third question that one must reflect upon is, “How does one view other people?” In each one of these essays you as a reader will be constantly challenged to be more committed to the growth and success of those you serve as a leader rather than your own success.Thoughts for the JourneyOne of the criticisms that leadership scholars have levied at servant-leadership theory is that there is not enough empirical research that support the productivity of an organization implementing this approach to leadership. In the past ten years that has changed and what is occurring is that there is some cross-over with this theory along with family systems theory that is making some deep impact into the productivity in industry as well as in the context of globalization. I didnt like this book. It really didnt have much to do with witchy stuff at all. It had a couple of spells in it, but mostly tips about how to bathe and recipies to cook. It wasnt at all like I had hoped it would be. There is nothing here that I couldnt have gotten out of a regular book and that I didnt already know. Dont waste your money on this one.

This is NOT a book on "how to be a witch 101". Instead, it's filled with lovely self-care and empowerment rituals based on pagan/witchy/Wiccan practices. In lieu of "cast a spell and all your problems will go away", this book invites you to look into yourself, identify stressors, perform spells/rituals to calm the anxieties they cause and empower you to find solutions. Things like journaling, grounding meditations, affirmations and recipes put you in charge of your path and provide immense support in your daily life and your witchy/pagan/Wiccan practice. Spells for releasing guilt, recipes for baths, incense, etc, and learning that it's okay to take time for and be your best self are all amazing!

The book itself is good. I enjoyed it as well as the green witch and the house witch. My only qualm is the fact that the cover of this book is not the same material as the other two witch books. I’m someone who enjoys displaying my books and this one kinda looks out of place. The cover to me looks “cheaper” than the others. Aside from that I would recommend this fun read.

When I got this and opened it up I was disappointed to learn it’s MUCH more of a self-help book than a book about magical practice and everyday spellwork, which is what I was hoping for. There’s a chapter on vision boards, just sayin’.The writing is also somewhat poor from a technical/grammatical standpoint and is very repetitive, like the author had written a paragraph, then gone and reworked it into a revision, then just went ahead and included both with just a few sentences separating them. I’ve never seen the word “spiritual/spiritually/spirituality” used so much in one read. It was on one page five times. Five.The book was inexpensive so I’ll probably keep it or gift it to someone, but it honestly isn’t at all what I thought or hoped for when I ordered it.

This book is full of amazing and wonderful self care tips, ideas, spells/prayers, and even food recipes.i can't wait to start this new step in my self care journey

I always promise no spoilers in reviews. The promise has never been as difficult to keep as it is with A Bound Heart because there is so much I want to exclaim and expound. When a book moves me this way, I am hard-pressed to remain quiet about all its many virtues. But I don’t want to ruin any of them for other readers. A Bound Heart is the kind of enduring tale on which book lovers and book clubs can reminisce for hours. Long after closing the pages upon Lark and the laird, I lay awake beside my snoring husband with an imagination full to overflow of their story world and ponderings on the ever Scottish theme of freedom. ‘Tis not the first time, Laura has left me thus. I pray it shall not be the last. (And no, I don’t actually talk like that, only while under the influence of Laura Frantz magic.)

My Scottish heart loved the beginning of this book. The setting on the Isle, the Scots speech, and all of the other little cultural details painted a beautiful picture of a land my heart longs for. So the beginning third of the book was a really quick read. The endearing details along with the exciting occurrences with the smuggling, stillroom, Magnus, and Isla made for an enthralling adventure. The second third of the book was interesting as well. The journey on the ship, the uncertainty of their lives ahead, the budding romance, and the nefarious schemes kept the pace moving along quite well. I loved the addition of Larkin to the story and how he molded into Lark's life and kept her safe and from falling apart. The third and final section of the book was a bit of a stretch for me. There were things going on but they did not have the same adventure and gravity as the parts before. Along with Lark, my heart longed for the times in Scotland, which held the most appeal. Lark and Magnus' romance is a patient and distant one. Still, I wish we had more time to live within the discovery of their romance, really building up their feelings for each other so the reader can feel it along with the characters. Even though they made declarations, I wanted to infuse the other senses along with it to really experience the longing along with them. The romance did build at the very end of the book, but if it had been built a little sooner, the reader would have better felt their longing for each other all through their separation and would have been more pulled to see them back together. It is also interesting how in each of the three sections there is a man who wants to have Lark for their own but cannot because her heart belongs to Magnus. The ending was sweet, and I loved how you could really feel Magnus and Lark's feelings and commitment to each other. Their plans and position for their future was very tenuous, so I didn't really like how they were left with that future. They spent a lot of the book talking about how people die when they go to the Caribbean, so it would have been nice to have an epilogue about them living in Virginia safe and sound after their years on the tropical island. That would have made the story feel completely wrapped up. Otherwise, there were a lot of elements with Lark's stillroom work, beekeeping, lifestyles of the time in Scotland, on a ship, in Virginia, and in the Caribbean, and laws of the time that kept interest throughout the story. I enjoyed this look into different pieces of the world during such a tumultuous time.

I am a HUGE Laura Frantz fan and have given all of her books before this one 5 stars. She is a master story teller and her attention to detail, especially historical detail, give all of her books incredible depth and interest. This is a sweet story, and includes all of the detail and good writing Laura is so wonderful to provide.But Not Her BestBut, this story began to wane for me about 2/3 of the way through. It became very predictable and uninteresting. I rushed through the last part of the book to get to the end.SPOILER ALERT!The end seemed to me to be where she could have taken the story much earlier and had a much better finish to the book. Magnus and Lark could have wed and gone on to Jamaica, and we she could have developed a better ending with them undertaking the challenges there, working through them together.Even though it's not her best, I still recommend it. All of her books are top notch, this one just isn't quite up to the standard of the others.

A slow start and no satisfying closure. So many unanswered questions. Did Osborne really capitulate so easily to their marriage when he had recently granted betrothal privileges to powerful plantation owner? Would her new husband and former laird really risk bringing her and the infant to Jamaica knowing the health threat was so great-risk Yellow Fever which nearly took his own life? That last chapter left me smh.
