I purchased "Secrets of a Jewish Mother" after hearing Jill, Gloria and Lisa speak on the radio - and they had a lot of valid points and good advice. When I sat down to read the book it was so much about Jill and it was written just as her voice when she talks. I couldn't even finish Chapter 1, even though I have tried on multiple occasions.. I thought it would be more about Gloria and her advice, but NO - it was the opposite. I would have returned the book, but I didn't keep the packing slip - so it's going in the garage sale! NOT WORTH MY TIME!

I love Jill and her mother but being brought up in a Jewish home much like Jills, I expected something more clever and not so contrite. I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know but I expected Jill to deliver it in a funnier way. She disappointed me.

I've read all the negative reviews and I couldn't disagree more. As a motherless daughter, I found the book incredibly helpful and wise. One thing that family has is love for each other and you can tell through the book and in their social media. It was written by Jewish mothers (which I'm sure a lot of people have a problem with out of the gate) and gives advice as they would give.I wish I had that book while I was dating, before my marriage and after it! I would have learned things that would have helped me make better decisions.So for all you haters out there, get over it. The book is great and should be in its second or third printing bec. this world needs as much love as it can get from all mothers!

Great Book

I was a fan of the Housewives of New York and for decades I've been a customer of Zarins Fabrics on Grand Street on the Lower East SIde, (which btw is dirty, dusty often and has a broken elevator) So, I was of course interested in this book.I watched Jill and her plasticine Mom on TV talk the book up--but, then to read this trite nonsense--They objectify and diminish everyone. While using the term "sincerity" they offer cold and calculating advice. They do not give Jewish Women a good name. I liked Jill Zarin as a character to watch, love her new hairdo and color. However, this book is such a woeful piece of trash that pretends to be wisdom, I am truly offended by it and Jill and her Mom. Actually the whole show has turned into a shameless Infomerical for their various products and services so I've lost interest in it.PS; Full disclosure, I also bougth the Countesses first book and Bethany's too. Bethany's book, although I like her the the least, actually had sold good advice on how to eat well, live a fast paced life and stay slim. The Countess's book was just sort of silly. But Jill and her Mother and Sister have written a book that if they have any decency they will rethink and disown, instead of trying to sell it to us poor women who are looking for honest, loving clues on how to live a good and decent life, but to these women that seems to mean lots of money, at all costs. Very Dissappointed.

Filled with obnoxious and self serving hypocritical quotes this book was a waste of time. These three are beyond obnoxious and clearly married up to have a comfortable lifestyle. That’s all they seem to care about anyway. The negative stereotypes where very sad and the author comes off as tacky new money that thinks she’s better than everyone else. I find them really obnoxious and entitled. Embarrassing.

I was really hoping to pick up some wise tidbits only a Mom could give. Instead, I was given page after page of inane suggestions that were not just useless but outright void of any thought. Did you know that all any woman has to do to attract a man is wear bright colors? See. It's as if they put no effort in this book whatsoever.My sister did get a kick out of my reaction to this atrocity. Which was most certainly the reason she gave me this book to begin with. The authors of this book should hang their heads in shame for trying to pull a fast one over a public they clearly deem beneath them.

My curiosity has finally been satisfied; I read *most* of the book and I'm glad I didn't purchase it. It's mostly tattered cliches packaged as Jewish motherly wisdom with a story and perspective from each of the women on marriage, children, and plastic surgery. As I was reading, a few sentences did jump off the pages. So, let me share...This one is especially timely:"Others see us differently than we see ourselves."(blink)Wow! Ya think??Of course, Gloria's dusty gems of wisdom are:"Rich is better than poor""Thin is better than fat""Smart is better than stupid"(She must have plagiarized those from some cave wall that's how long they have been around)Then, they attempt to make a rather lame (and insulting) joke about NOT insulting all the "poor, stupid, and fat" people in the world. What I found ironic is the importance they put on education, and how much importance they purport Jews put on education with women being treated equally with men; yet, all of these woman come across as having a desperate lack of just that: Education. One could reasonably expect that these "educated" women would have perhaps a more enlightened perspective of the world and comprehend that their circumstances are different than 99% of the human race. Not so. Several pages were dedicated to "getting the ring" and acquiring things. I get the impression they inhabit a rather insular existence that subscribes to particular philosophy of life (bring a gift!), but most of us do not and I believe that is one of the reasons this book has become somewhat of a laughing stock.I've been on this earth long enough to have learned most of the "lessons" presented in this book; such as having regular facials and making sure the salon where I get them is clean. Now, if I could just AFFORD the regular facials. I have a feeling those that can, certainly don't need this book to advise them.I did find it mildly interesting that Jill signed a pre-nup with Bobby and is perfectly okay with it.There was only one lone copy of this book sandwich between two other titles and I don't think because it was sold out. Personally, I think karma has been at work due to Jill's aberrant behavior on the show and right here on Amazon.I give it two stars because I believe the intention of the book (other than making money)was meant to be useful and believe it or not, I have read worse, but, again, like they wrote, "Others see us different than how we see ourselves".

This is a complete ripoff, totally dissatisfied. It looks like it was made in someone's basement. Not a single picture or map in it.

Yeah whoops. Should have read all the reviews. It's basically a paperback version of a .txt file. Not what I wanted to buy at all.

Calling this an 'extensive guide's is misleading. Consider this more a collection of quick tips and nothing more than a slightly worse version of an ign walkthrough. Shrine locations are not located as there is no map, and not all shrines are discussed, leaving most of them up to you to either figure out or look up the solution online.On the upside, most of what IS included is factual with few mistakes. If you're looking for a good guide, better to just buy the official one

Terrific guide. Tons of useful tips that seem to cover aspects throughout the game. Use "Search Inside the Book" before you buy if you want to assess whether it's the right kind of book for you. For $3 and considering the amount of information and convenience in it, I would happily recommend the Kindle edition to anybody. Personally I would probably not want the print edition of the book.

I tried to avoid spending $40.00 for the game, This guide try's to help, but there are no maps or instructions how to do things like start a campfire, so I still need to buy the Official guidebook.

Biggest issue is no pictures, images or maps to aid the player. Not user friendly, cheap quality. The image on the cover is grainy and doesn’t even fit on the cover right. You could find all this information in a better format on the internet for free. Will definitely be returning this book.

I loved this book, it gave more than the The Zelda Breath of wild strategy book, it gives more of a insite on game play. So I would recommend to all ages, if u love all Nintendo as I do this book is a must. Thanks 4 taking the time to write.

Wonderfully entertaining writing. Just like reading Christopher Hitchens, i need to keep the iPhone or the OED handy to look up unfamiliar words. There were many amusing and thoughtful moments and I added yet more books to my list of must reads.

The recipient enjoyed the essays very much.

Amis is the king of style. Amazing range of topics. Never disappointed.

Amazing Amis ! Brilliant insights into a highly contradictory world. The essays also provide valuable insights into literature, literary assessment, biography, psychology, & philosophy.

A close second to Hitch.

Martin Amis once again points the laser of his talent at a selection of writers, celebrities and politicians. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to spend a little time in his head - read it now, his essays about Trump are perfect.

In Martin Amis’ latest collection of essays THE RUB OF TIME he includes one about his father Kingsley’s posthumously published book THE KING’S ENGLISH. Much of what Amis says about his father’s love and use of language can be said about Martin himself. As the saying goes, the apple never falls far from the tree. He is a master of the King’s English, and every essay bears that out. His language takes magnificent twists and turns as he delights those of us who love words with new combinations of them. “Every last” waitress in Las Vegas “sports a gulch-like cleavage.” Anne Romney at the Republican Convention of 2012 looked like “the worthy winner of Miss Dairy Queen 1970.” Newt Gingrich is an “abysmal vulgarian.” Amis describes a biographer of Nabokov as “not one of nature’s handmaidens.”As is evident from the above quotations, the author writes often about America: the Republican Party, Donald Trump (of course I read his article on the orange-haired man first), Las Vegas, porno, John Trovolta. And while he is quick to call us out for what he sees wrong with us, he also does not hesitate to praise the country that he has spent much time in. (And his father gave me permission to end a sentence with a preposition.) For example he finds the cities in the U. S. “so much better. . . so much more glamorous” than English cities.Mr. Amis also includes essays on other writers: Nabokov, Bellow, Updike, Larkin, Jane Austen, Iris Murdoch. The essay from his introduction to an edition of Philip Larkin’s poems may be the best in the collection. In “Rabbit Angstrom Confronts Obamacare” the author discusses the average America’s reluctance to support universal health care in a country where doctors “carry on like slum landlords” and where to be seriously ill is all too often to be poor. But Updike in 1987 said in a meeting with Amis that ‘”Socialized medicine would seem grotesque to us.’” Apparently many Americans still agree with Mr. Updike. I was happy to see that Mr. Amis reconsidered his early criticism of Herman Melville and now opines that MOBY DICK would be a candidate for the Great American Novel if it had had a woman character and set in America.In “You Ask the Questions (1) and (2) the author reprints his answers to questions from readers. His wit is wicked. My favorite of several answers is his response when asked what was the worst thing that ever happened to him. “One day I returned home from a book tour in the US, and I suddenly noticed that the leading edge of the toilet roll in the bathroom wasn’t folded into an invited V – as it was in all those American hotels. Not only that. There were more enticing choices this month on Amazon First Reads than usual, so I took my time to select the most provocative suspense. I especially appreciated the bio of the author of “Hunt Them Down.”The opening displayed great potential, for enjoyment and for disappointment. By Chapter 4, I was, alas, leaning towards disappointment. Why?1 - The author gives us an info dump about Chicago and the street value of a kilo of heroin and how some $15 Mn is peanuts to a drug cartel. Granted, if done correctly, this sort of information CAN lend credibility, so at this point I’m not too concerned, but...2 - The writer decides he wants the embedded tv journalist (equipped with his own camera, I think, to be a hater of police “bullies” (author’s words, not mine). The reporter is a ‘prima donna’ who live tweets a raid, thus enabling an escape/defense by cartel members, who kill a member of the team. Mind you, all of this happens in the first three or four chapters, so I don’t consider these revelations to be spoilers. When you come across a reporter who dares to even think of his greatness stemming from tragedy, well, part of me wanted to toss my Kindle-app equipped iPad across the room. But, then, as a former journalist, I don’t view the media as an enemy of the people.But, I abhor reviews that reveal too much of a book’s plot, so will stop here.BLUSH FACTOR: One might expect an Action-Adventure to feature hard-edged characters evoking profanities. In that sense, there are no surprises here. Some will be disappointed in the number of eff-words, but, as for me, the language spoken felt real, even if the number exceeded the artistic needs. Put simply, don’t plan on reading to children or to your prayer group.CHARACTER: Early on, it felt as though the writer might be developing cartoon characters, but I also surmised he might be setting me up for turning the jerk reporter into a buddy to the agent later in the story, so I read on. Certainly, the agent (Hunt) felt like he was drawn on the author’s alter-ego.EXCERPT‘...Moore couldn’t believe his luck. He checked his live viewers. Ten thousand and climbing. Amazing. The likes were coming in faster than ever before. And so were the comments.He had filmed everything, including when the lead special agent—what was his name again?
